it wasn't long ago when I got the call
I was an OH group, a simple alcohol
and I didn't belong to the leaving group club

so I went to bromine who was my friend
to find out how I could be just like him
and he said "man, you gotta get some proton love"

so I took a big chance at the proton dance
I was looking to find some acid romance
and with any luck I'd come out protonated

well the weak acids treated me like scum
but then I hooked up with hydronium
and here's what happened when me and that proton mated

well I'm a leaving group now
and I'm finally allowed
to get outta here
I'll leave my carbon bare
and if a base comes along
there'll be an elimination
